Well I received a lovely bit of news yesterday...it turns out that a large chain in Canada picked up several of my pieces from the MacKay Collection (my licensed line with Darice). The timing of this could not be better as I am presenting the line to the same super chain (only USA) on this coming Tuesday. This could prove helpful in encouraging the USA buyer to follow suit! Wish me luck, I have never been down to their headquarters. Should prove interesting. I'll let you know how it goes.
Then the following day its off to Tucson for the Gem Show! I positively cannot wait!! While there I will see many old friends as always, but this year I get to meet a fellow jewelry artist that I admire... Sherri Haab. I have been wanting to meet her for some time now. I think she's brilliant (and I seldom use the "B" word) her creativity and focus are wonderful. I celebrate her success. You can find her books everywhere. Her latest Metal Clay and Mixed Media Jewelry: Innovative Projects Featuring Resin, Polymer Clay, Fiber, Glass, Ceramics, Collage Materials, and More (click) is a terrific source of learning in the use of metal clay in combination with other materials you might not have otherwise thought of using. Fabulous!
If you haven't read any of Sherri's books you will want to...!!!
One of the other things I am looking forward to while in Tucson is attending the (invite only) Swarovski evening party during which they honor this year's winners and finalists of the annual design competition and show appreciation to their largest vendors. I've heard tell they scatter crystals everywhere..tables, carpeted walkways (seconds from the factory) all very glamorous. Sounds like it would create quite a spectacular amount of play in the light and glistening in and of the night. Beautiful to behold no doubt, nothing like an amazing sunset... but not bad for man made beauty! I seldom get out of my studio so I'm looking forward to meeting the other designers and artists. There will be a lot of social contact sport going on that night I'm sure. Major networking night...the creative industries are a wonderful place to call home, many fine people. So much creativity all around you constantly. I love this.
